I work from an integrative (e.g., psycho-dynamic, emotion-focused, cognitive-behavioural) perspective that is trauma-informed. I always cater therapy to whomever I am working with in order ensure that we are working towards the goals you would like to achieve. The therapeutic relationship is important to me. I strive to create an environment that is warm, open, and non-judgmental. I am open and accepting to any and all of your identities, whether that be religion, race, sexuality, beliefs or even if you have a lifestyle that is different.
Nalwanga’s approach to the therapeutic relationship is rooted in ethnocultural understanding and empathy. Keenly aware of an emerging pattern of sentiment in her own practice, Nalwanga founded Karibu Mental Health Network in an effort to meet the increasing need for readily available, accessible and relatable therapists who are dedicated to serving diasporic communities. As a therapist, Nalwanga grounds herself firmly in the philosophical framework of Ubuntu and remains steadfast in her commitment to facilitate authenticity whilst remaining dedicated to helping people make sense of the challenges they face.
I design workplace wellness and sexual violence solutions for institutions and organizations in Canada and globally. Some of the problems that my clients -CEO’s, Board of Directors, Deans and Managers – are stuck on are the following: How do we support the Wellness and Mental Health needs of our staff? How do we support our colleagues that may have experienced Race-Based Stress in our organization? How do we assist our staff in Returning To Work from a leave? How do we create or revise our Mental Health and Sexual Violence/Gender-Based Violence Policies and Procedures through an Equitable Lens?

My name is Marsha, RSW, MSW, Dip CICAPP and I am a mother and psychotherapist, who understands the struggles that everyday families face. In so many aspects of your life, you have it all. In fact others see as you really having it together”. You’re the one that others turn to for help. But you have fears and personal concerns that you are holding you back from expressing love for yourself, your work, and important people in your life.
In my private practice, my work focuses on the Gender-Based Violence sector and supporting women through the multiple challenges that we face in this country. Where possible, I also work to support our Indigenous Peoples throughout Canada. I currently sit on the Board of Directors at Immigrant Women Services Ottawa. I also sit on an Advisory Committee for their Leadership for Systemic Change Cohort that is currently running.
I work with adults, couples, children, and families who find themselves stuck in the same stories, but who yearn for different endings. Clinically, I offer traditional Talk therapy” for adults and couple's, and play therapy at my private practice in White Rock. I also offer parent consultation
I offer a collaborative & client-centred approach that is highly individualized to your needs, goals, strengths, and interests. My approach to therapy is eclectic & integrates techniques from evidence-based therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy & Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also provide consultation and life skills coaching.
Trauma has a way of showing up in an intrusive way, it shows up with no real reference point for, it brings up discomfort and leaves us with this sufferance and pain. Taking the first step can be hard, while finding new meaning and growth is possible, it takes courage and vulnerability.
